Celebrating a Strategic Exit: Sentera Joins John Deere to Advance Precision Agriculture

When S2G first invested in Sentera back in 2018, we were backing a company that we believed could reshape how the world farms. In a sector often slow to evolve, Sentera stood out for its precision-first approach and ability to translate complex agronomic data into real-world value. S2G’s investment reflected our belief in next-generation agricultural productivity built on smarter inputs, sharper data, and software that sees every square inch of a field.
Today, we’re proud to share that Sentera has been acquired by John Deere, marking a major milestone for the company and for the future of digital agriculture. We believe this acquisition is a powerful validation of the growing convergence between sustainability, productivity, and precision technology in farming. It also underscores S2G’s conviction in backing data-driven platforms that unlock a more efficient, resilient, and regenerative food system.

Digitizing the Acre
Over the past decade, Sentera has earned a reputation as a trusted leader in precision agriculture, with technologies that empower growers, agronomists, and retailers to optimize every acre.
Sentera’s advanced cameras integrate seamlessly with most major drone platforms, empowering farmers and crop scouts to efficiently capture high-resolution data across large areas. With its FieldAgent™ software tools, Sentera empowers farmers and agronomists to assess plant-level health, identify stressors like disease or pest pressure, and take targeted action in the field.
One of Sentera’s most notable innovations is SMARTSCRIPT™ Weeds, a customized herbicide prescription that can be delivered to sprayers with individual nozzle control. By generating a targeted weed map from high-speed drone imagery, Sentera enables precision herbicide application that can reduce chemical use by up to 70% while maintaining ~95% control accuracy.
As cited by John Deere, combining Sentera’s imagery capabilities with the John Deere Operations Center™ will enable farmers and trusted advisors to seamlessly gather and integrate agronomic data, understand real-time conditions, and turn data into insights that drive decisions in the field throughout the growing season. Importantly, Sentera will continue to supply cameras directly to drone manufacturers for integration into their products, as well as sell to farmers, agronomists, ag retailers, and other users.

A Vision S2G Was Proud to Support
Since our first investment, our team at S2G has been continually impressed by Sentera’s ability to make precision agriculture both scalable and practical. Their vision aligns squarely with our view that farming solutions must be climate-smart, data-rich, and operationally deployable at a commercial scale.
We are deeply proud of Sentera and its visionary team. Supporting their mission to modernize agriculture has been a privilege, and we look forward to watching their impact grow even further with the global reach and scale of John Deere.
