Welcome InCharge Energy: Building the Service Backbone for Reliable Energy Infrastructure

Most of the conversation around electric vehicle charging has focused on deployment. Not enough has focused on what happens after. 

EV adoption has scaled rapidly across North America over the past decade, and the energy infrastructure surrounding it has grown more complex in turn. Charging is now woven into the daily operations of fleets, school districts, municipalities, and businesses, and with its integration comes an ecosystem of hardware manufacturers, software platforms, EPCs, and maintenance providers that organizations need to navigate.

The burden of assembling and managing that value chain falls on the operators themselves. Companies that are fundamentally in the business of moving students, delivering packages, or serving their communities are now expected to become energy infrastructure managers by default. That’s not a reasonable ask, and we believe it’s a problem the market hasn’t adequately solved. Fragmented ownership of the value chain means fragmented accountability, and fragmented accountability can result in imperfect deployments with higher downtime, slower response times, and assets that underperform relative to what the economics of electrification require.

That’s why S2G is excited to welcome InCharge Energy to the portfolio, a provider of EV charging and energy solutions across North America. InCharge was built around a simple but powerful idea: operators shouldn’t have to stitch together their own solution. We led a $46 million strategic investment in the company to support its evolution beyond EV charging into a comprehensive energy solutions provider, spanning electrical infrastructure and distributed energy resources, backed by proprietary software and an in-house national service organization.

Building One Platform for Charging and Energy Operations

InCharge has built one of North America’s largest multi-brand EV charger service networks, with more than 30,000 managed assets serving major fleets, school districts, municipalities, and other mission-critical operators. Rather than specializing in a single layer of the value chain, the company offers a fully integrated asset management platform that lets both fleet operators and charge point operators deploy and sustain large networks at scale.

At the center sits InControl™, InCharge’s proprietary software and the operational core for its connected charging and energy assets. InControl gives customers one environment to manage, operate, and maintain their infrastructure, with real-time charger visibility, network management, remote diagnostics, continuous monitoring, AI-driven issue resolution, fleet operations support, and performance optimization. Together, these capabilities resolve roughly 80% of charger issues remotely, and the rest are routed to InCharge’s own field technicians for hands-on repair.

The platform reaches well beyond EV charging. InControl serves as the system of record for warranties, service contracts, preventative maintenance programs, subscriptions, and asset history across battery storage, solar, transformers, switchgear, electrical distribution equipment, lighting, and other balance-of-power infrastructure. Tied directly to InCharge’s 247 Network Operations Center, Support Operations Center, and nationwide field service organization, it brings asset monitoring, lifecycle management, and service operations into one place. By linking asset performance, service history, contractual coverage, and operational data, InCharge helps organizations maximize uptime, lower operating costs, extend asset life, and simplify management of large, multi-asset operations.

Backing the Operating Layer of Electrification

S2G invested in InCharge because we believe the operating layer of electrification is where durable value can be created. It’s our belief that demand for reliable, technology-enabled network operations will only intensify as the installed base of chargers and distributed energy resources continues to expand and mature. We see InCharge as well-positioned to lead the shift the industry needs, moving from reactive, break-fix maintenance toward proactive, performance-driven management.

InCharge’s pairing of software and in-house service is difficult to replicate, and it mirrors how customers actually experience their infrastructure. In a fragmented market, no single vendor delivers uptime on its own, and owners increasingly want one accountable partner across the asset lifecycle. By owning both the data and the field execution, InCharge can catch issues early, validate service coverage, and coordinate response across thousands of assets.

The investment will support InCharge as it scales its national field services division by growing its technician workforce and route density in key markets, accelerating development of the InControl platform, and expanding into broader energy solutions. Beyond capital, we will work closely with the team as it seeks to deepen customer relationships, strengthen its nationwide service capabilities, and extend the platform across new asset classes.
